Prayers of St Pius V to Jesus Crucified

I. Jesus Christ crucified, Son of the Most Blessed Virgin Mary, open your ears and hear me, as you heard the Eternal Father at the Transfiguration on Mount Tabor. Credo.

II. Jesus Christ crucified, Son of the Most Blessed Virgin Mary, open your eyes and look upon me so benevolently, as you looked upon your most afflicted Mother from the tree of the cross. Credo.

III. Jesus Christ crucified, Son of the Most Blessed Virgin Mary, open your mouth and speak to me as you spoke to St John, when you gave him as a son to your Most Holy Mother. Credo.

IV. Jesus Christ crucified, Son of the Most Blessed Virgin Mary, open your arms and embrace me, as you opened them on the cross to embrace all mankind. Credo.

V. Jesus Christ crucified, Son of the Most Blessed Virgin Mary, open your heart, receive mine, and grant my request, if this is the pleasure of your will. Credo.

The Supreme Pontiff Pius IX, by a rescript written in his own hand on 24 May 1859, grants to all the faithful, whenever they recite the aforementioned prayers with the five Credo with a contrite and devout heart in accordance with His Holiness’s intention: 1. An indulgence of 60 days; 2. A Plenary Indulgence once a month to those who, having recited them daily for a period of one month, on a day of their choosing, when truly repentant, having confessed and received Holy Communion, visit a church or public oratory and pray there for a time for the needs of the Holy Church.
